Cathy M. Rosenthal has more than 25 years experience in public relations and writing for both the public and private sectors. She has written for several newspapers, magazines, and nonprofit organizations, focusing on animal issues and people/pet relationships. She is the author of “The Lucky Tale of Two Dogs” (ages 4-8, www.petpunditpublishing.com) — a story that shows kids and their families what every dog needs to be lucky and loved.
Cathy has been the pet columnist for the San Antonio Express-News since 2003. Her entertaining and informative weekly advice column (with an occasional essay on popular current animal issues) provides readers with insights into animal behavior. She offers solutions for the most common animal behavior problems; deals with neighbor-to-neighbor issues concerning animals; provides relationship information to keep pets and people together; and educates readers on humane pet care—hopefully keeping pets from being abandoned on the streets or at the local humane society.
She also authors a blog at www.mysanantonio.com called Animals Matter, and has been a contributor to Dog Fancy, Natural Dogs, and Dogs USA magazines. Her articles have included such topics as, selecting dog foods; canine sports for beginners; alternative therapies for dogs; canine physical therapy; the problems with microchips; and the different ways we communicate with our pets through body language.
For the past two decades while working for local humane societies and national humane groups, Cathy has appeared on hundreds of television and radio news and public affairs programs offering her animal insight and expertise to listeners. She has worked on Capitol Hill, educating Congress on pet issues, and organized national press conferences to communicate these messages to a broader audience.
Cathy is a public speaker, giving workshops at regional humane federations and national humane organizations on public relations and communications for the humane professional. She also has given hundreds of humane education programs in public schools; created and taught week-long humane education camps for kids ages 8 to 13; taught pet first aid to adults and kids; and offered a variety of programs for pet owning adults, including a “Pets and Baby” program on how to introduce your pet to your newborn.
Cathy resides in Texas with her husband and their dogs, Maggie, Buster and Archie and her cat, Miss Kitty. She can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
